(More customer reviews)This is an awesome book! When Pia's dad, a rich buisinessman with a big wallet runs off with a woman from work, Pia and her mother are forced to move into a "tiny-weeny" cottage. Luckily, Pia still has her pony Drummer, who Pia's father pays for out of guilt. Pia and Drummer must both adjust to their new yard. When a snooty girl asks to switch stalls on the first day at the new yard, Pia refuses. Cat is the queen of the yard, and wants Drummer's stable for her pony so that she can be next to James, a cute boy who both she and Pia happen to fancy. It sparks an instant hate for Pia from Cat. Later, while on a ride, Drummer stumbles and Pia tumbles off. When she stands up, she can suddenly hear Drummer. She discovers Epona, a little statue that allows her to hear horses and ponies. Turns out, Drum is not quite the sweet pony Pia thought he was. But when she returns to the yard though, her new "gift" saves a fancy dressage pony from colic, earning her some respect at the yard. She soons becomes the "Pony Whisperer" and is featured in the local paper on the front page. Pia starts to become famous, and appears on TV, only to get her own TV show, called "Pony Whispering Live!" But on the day of the first episode, Pia forgets something - Epona! Will she have to embarrass herself on live television, or will the cute James save her? Filled with funny, daring, and frusterating moments, this book combines true knowledge of horses with fantasy. Unlike other books, this author knows her horse stuff, so a real rider won't be disappointed and/or frusterated with false information. And anybody who wants to read fiction but still learn about horses will also enjoy this book about Pia's problems being the "New Girl" and being tormented by Cat, "Queen of the Yard!" The reader will also enjoy the funny moments with Drummer (aka Drum), Pia's sassy pony!
