I bought this book in the hope that the "color plates" would facilitate identification of moths. Moth field guides are surprisingly hard to come by, and this book first published in 1916 stands out as a seminal work. Unfortunately, this edition is just a low-quality scan of an old copy. It's even lower quality than if you were to photocopy an original print. While text is readable, the photo plates are pretty much useless for identification purposes. So if you want to read about moth species which you have already identified, then this might be a worthwhile purchase. The prose is actually pretty well-written. But if you are hoping for a useful field guide to help you identify moths, this edition is utterly useless!
