This book deals specifically with test pilots at Avro Canada and DeHavilland Canada in the 1950s and 1960s, arguably the golden age of the Canadian aviation industry. For a pilot, the main text feels a little "dumbed down", and reads more like typical newspaper coverage of aviation events, lacking technically-sound specificity. However, the last one third of the book contains detailed chapter notes, written with real aviation expertise, and very impressive research and bibliography. It's a curious juxtaposition of two writing styles, but the overall effect is quite satisfactory, and prompted me to purchase four more books on the pilots, aircraft and company history covered here.

Aviation enthusiasts, pilots, and anyone interested in the history of flying will enjoy this account of Canada’s involvement in the aviation industry, and specifically aircraft prototype testing. Canadian pilots were exemplary fliers during the war, and many took up new careers as test pilots when Canada began designing aircraft for the world market in the 1950s. The Chosen Ones puts readers in the cockpit with pilots whose life experience has been filled with many heart-stopping moments both on this continent and abroad. Black-and-white photographs are featured.
