I first read this book in elementary school and again in junior high school, and it totally captured my imagination. Even then, I could recognize that this was a beautiful and sincerely written book. I found a copy in later years and it remains one of my most prized possessions in this materialistic world of ours. I get a good feeling whenever I look at it. The book, to me, is poetic. It imparts information, the kind which these days is all too frequently discarded, but, for those of us who know, is very much worth knowing. I have always been fascinated by the author and it was only recently, thanks to the internet, that I have been able to find out a little more about her. She was a remarkable person, and I think her personality can be summed up in the lines in the forward: "But, most of all, I want this book to reach some one weary and overtaxed, and help him to find the rest, relaxation, and enjoyment in the fairyland of Natural Science that the little mother and I found when the Moths and Butterflies showed us the way." She showed me the way too. I wish I could wax poetic as Ellen Robertson-Miller does in the book, but I am content with having the book and her words doing so. It gives me great pride to honor this lady by writing this review.
