(More customer reviews)I've owned this book for 5 years. I have glanced back at it and looked at it several times and the book has traveled back and forth with me across the country a couple times.
I'm not a big Bukowski fan, nor do I like 'poems' so much -- and this book really isn't poems or short stories -- I don't know what it is to be quite honest with you.
The title piece "Cool Moths Never Come to Light" is a compelling metaphor about all our desire to reach and strike out do something different - a fear that our lives will become forgettable and ordinary. And serves as an inspiration to just that...strike out and do something different. Be yourself and be brave. It makes me think slightly of "The Alchemist."
The other works are slice of life anecdotes - sometimes brutally honest, sometimes metaphorical - that just make you wonder what the hell we're all doing sometimes. And makes you truly want to do something. If for no other reason than to not be tormented like the guy who wrote the damn story.
There's some good, tortured love drama in there. It's subtle but there and insightful. Who hasn't been there.
It's short. You can read. Try it. Don't be scared, even though it sometimes seems like a freakshow. I liked it and like to share some of the works and word choices with others.
